Work in Oman interests many people. For a long time, no one went here, but now the prospect of work is attracting more and more people. And deservedly so: the country is next door to oil magnates such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Yemen is also nearby.
Muscat is the largest city in the country, with about 1.5 million people. According to the World Bank, Oman’s population in 2020 is 4.8 million people, half of whom are foreigners – good salaries, fast career prospects, and no taxes attract them to the country. Unlike other countries in the Middle East, where there are constant fights and revolutions, and terrorist attacks, Oman has always been quiet and peaceful. As a result, repeatedly, the country has been recognized as one of the safest in the world in terms of inbound tourism. For example, in the 2017 ranking by the International Economic Forum, Oman ranked fourth in this regard.
In general, Arabic is spoken in Oman. But since 1.7 million foreigners live and work permanently in the Sultanate, you can get by quite comfortably here without Arabic, but only with English. Half of the foreigners are newcomers from India, for whom English is a native language, so Arabic is seldom spoken in our office. In all my time in the country, I have not needed to learn the local language.
The official religion in Oman is Islam, but not as harsh as in neighboring Saudi Arabia. In general, the level of tolerance of the Omanis to other faiths is probably the highest of all the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf. At least in the Sultanate, there are churches of almost all major religions.
The state prioritizes the standard of living of its citizens – it has one of the highest standards of living, a favorable environmental situation, and increased wages for people. Oman used to be one of the oil magnates, like its neighbors. Still, mineral reserves are constantly decreasing, and a new area of specialization has emerged in the state – the service sector, which includes tourism and the restaurant business.
Consequently, Oman is in constant need of new personnel, and natives from South Asia and from all over the world come to this country to build a career with a decent salary. Fact: The average wage in Oman for migrants is much higher than the high rate in Europe.
But people come here not only to build a career. People are gaining financial prosperity here, but other factors make Oman a famous country for emigration:
- The exotic desert landscape;
- The unfamiliar vibrant Muslim culture;
- The presence of historical monuments;
- High level of service;
- Favorable environmental conditions and climate of the country;
- The loyal policy of the state concerning emigrants.
Life in Oman is characterized by conditions that other, more developed countries do not have. For example, there is no demographic record. There is virtually no unemployment and homelessness and almost zero crime. And citizens of Oman do not pay taxes on their income at all!
The country has developed, and socially-oriented policy: for citizens, medicine and all levels of education are free benefits.
